The church is old enough that the directories do not agree on a single founding day. A public parish listing gives 20 May 1816. A directory of the Changanacherry parishes prints 1825 beside the name. On 15 August 1974 the parish was raised to forane rank. The building and the riverകെട്ടിടവും പുഴയും
The present church is the white building on the hill: a stepped facade, niches of saints, a blue cross, and the tower that can be picked out from the roads along the Manimala river. The parish feast runs from 31 December to 7 January. Accounts of the perunnal describe a procession of about three kilometres from Karikkattor junction to the church, walked by parishioners and by neighbours of other communities.
